LAREDO, Texas – No. 20 Texas A&M International University men's soccer (11-5-1, 7-3-0 LSC) dropped a 2-0 Lone Star Conference road contest to the UT Tyler Patriots (7-7-3, 2-5-3 LSC) on Saturday afternoon.
TAMIU midfielder Ruben Nielsen looked to get the Dustdevils on the scoreboard early as he tested UT Tyler goalkeeper Parker O'Quinn just 31 seconds into the match. Nielsen's shot was heading for the bottom left side of the net but was stopped by O'Quinn.
At the 21:33 mark, TAMIU defender Keanu Born took a shot on goal but O'Quinn rejected the attempt which would continue the scoreless match.
O'Quinn would reject two more shots by Nielsen to send the 0-0 draw into the intermission.
In the 61st minute, Dustdevil forward Nadav Datner attempted to break the scoring ice but O'Quinn stopped the shot.
In the 81st minute, the Patriots converted on a goal by Dario Rossell on a feed from Edwin Saldivar to make it a 1-0 match.
UT Tyler then put the match away when Birkir Eydal netted a goal that got by Dustdevil goalkeeper Josh Jones to cap off the 2-0 victory for the Patriots.
O'Quinn recorded 10 saves for UT Tyler while Jones tallied a pair of rejections for TAMIU.
The Dustdevils applied pressure on offense through the match as they led the way in shots (22-12), shots on goal (10-4) while the Patriots led the way in corner kicks (6-5).
TAMIU will host a quarterfinal match as the No. 3 seed in the Lone Star Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament and is set to take on No. 6 seed West Texas A&M (8-6-2, 4-4-2 LSC) on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
