TAMIU Falls to Oklahoma Christian

LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International men's basketball (5-17, 2-9 HC) dropped a 89-64 decision to Oklahoma Christian (9-13, 4-7) on Thursday.

Danny Spinuzza paced the Dustdevils with a season-high 24 points, as well as two steals, a rebound and an assist. Xabier Gomez posted 20 points, two rebounds, four steals and two assists. Damon Leach contributed nine points, five rebounds and three assists.

TAMIU stumbled out of the gate, as the Eagles opened on a 11-2 run. OC would put the pressure on as they pushed out to a 31-11 lead 10 minutes into the half. However, the Dustdevils began to find their footing late in the half and raced back to cut the lead to 42-36 to close out the period.

On the other side of the break, TAMIU pulled within three points as Leach drained a three-pointer to trim the deficit to 42-39 to start the half. Unfortunately, that would be as close as they would get as the Eagles punched back with an 8-0 run, pushing the lead back out to 50-39. The Dustdevils would keep it close for the next few minutes, but another extended 11-0 run put OC up 65-46 with just under 12 minutes left. The Eagles took their largest lead of the game at 89-61, and would eventually take an 89-64 victory.

TAMIU will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 16 as they close out the homestand with Newman at 3 p.m.
