AUSTIN, Texas -Â Texas A&M International baseball (6-10) fell 10-4 in the series finale to St. Edward's (10-6) on Saturday.
The Dustdevils were able to get on the board early in the first inning as Jorge Napoles drove in Andrew Holsey for the game's first run with a RBI single. Obi Obinwa would later bring Napoles with a RBI double, giving TAMIU an early 2-0 lead. The Hilltoppers would get a run back in the bottom half on a RBI ground out to second, cutting the lead to 2-1.
SEU would take their first lead in the second as they put up a three spot in the inning. The first run scored on an error by the third baseman, with the second scoring on a wild pitch. The final run came in on a RBI single, giving St. Edward's a 4-2 lead.Â
The Hilltoppers added to their lead in the fifth inning. One run scored on a sacrifice fly, one scored on a RBI double and two scored on a triple. The fifth run of the frame scored on a RBI single. They would tack on one more run in the sixth off another RBI single to take a 10-2 lead.
TAMIU started to attempt a comeback in the seventh as Hunter Trinidad would bring in Phillip Sanchez with a ground out to third. They would get one run more in the eighth off a solo shot from Obinwa, cutting the deficit to 10-4. Unfortunately, that would be where the rally ended as the Dustdevils went quietly in the ninth.
Cooper Bailey (2-1, 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO) earned the win. Justin Rumley (0-1, 4.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO) suffered his first loss of the season.
