OKLAHOMA CITY -Â Texas A&M International baseball (10-22, 1-5 HC) dropped the series finale 9-3 against Oklahoma Christian (20-8, 4-2 HC) on Saturday.
The game began as a pitcher's duel as both starters worked perfect frames for the first two innings.Â
TAMIU would break the seal in the third inning as Jorge Napoles and Matthew Rosales hit back-to-back RBI singles to center field, bringing in Hunter Trinidad and Anthony Handel, respectively. Oklahoma Christian got a run back in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single of their own to pull within 2-1.
The Eagles tied it up in the bottom of the fourth as a run came home on a throwing error by the catcher. They would take their first lead 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth, pushing across two runs on a RBI infield single and a two RBI double to right field.
OC added two more runs in the sixth. One run scored on a RBI double to right field, with the other run coming home on an error by the first baseman, pushing their advantage out to 7-2.
The Dustdevils would get a run back in the seventh inning off a RBI single to right field, bringing home Obi Obinwa and cutting the lead to 7-3.
The Eagles responded in the bottom half of the inning pushing across two runs to take a 9-3 lead. Two runs scored on a throwing error by the shortstop. The final run scored on a sacrifice fly to center, giving OC the victory.
Zachary Pape (4-1, 7.0 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO) earned the win. Ruben Solis (0-7, 5.1 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO) took the loss.
TAMIU will return home on Friday, April 5 as they play host to Newman in a Heartland Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.Â
