Texas A&M International women’s basketball welcomes four starters from 33-win team along with newcomers Rachel Bonander and Clara Fernandez

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's basketball Head Coach Nate Vogel wasted no time reconstructing his roster for the 2019-20 season as he announced the signings of former Miles Community College (MCC) starters Patrycja Jaworska, Dakota Dosch, Lucia Salazar and Josselin Geer. In addition to acquiring four starters on a team that went 33-1, Vogel also announced the signings of Rachel Bonander and Clara Fernandez on Thursday.

Jaworska brings a long list of accolades to TAMIU. While playing at MCC under coach Vogel, last season Jaworska averaged team highs of 14.5 points per game and shot 41.7 percent from long distance. She also connected on 42.2 percent of shots from the field and tallied 3.5 assists along with 2.06 steals per game before being named the Region XIII Tournament Co-MVP and the MVP of the Mon-Dak Athletics Conference. Jaworska was also named to the 2019 WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) Two-Year College Coaches' All-American team. The Wroclaw, Poland native also demonstrated her talents internationally as she represented her country as a member of the Polish national team.

Coach Vogel spoke highly of Jaworska and stated, "PJ [Patrycja Jaworska] is a big time program changer. She is exactly what we want in our point guard. She is an exceptional ball handler and shoots the ball very well. Not only is she great on the basketball court...We expect her to make an immediate impact at TAMIU.

In 2018, Dosch was named to the Region IX All-Tournament team after averaging 11 points and seven boards for MCC. Coach Vogel called Dosch, "...One of the toughest players I've ever coached. Dakota is just as capable of driving by you as she is hitting the three-point shot." Vogel also noted that the Cut Bank, Mont. native, "...Will always be one of the first to volunteer for community service and gets it done in the classroom."

Salazar joins TAMIU with experience as a member of the Mexican National team. Vogel stated that the six-footer from Madrid, Spain is "...A mismatch nightmare for the opposing team. She has great length and is quick in the post. She also hit one of the biggest three-point shots at MCC in the Regional Championship game. Lucia brings everything we want in our program in terms of a student-athlete."

Geer brings intensity on the defensive end of the court and can also shoot from beyond the arc. Vogel noted that, "Josselin is an athletic, defensive stopper that usually guards the opposing team's best player. She gives us length at the guard position and is a great person, player and student."

Vogel also adds height to his roster with the addition of Bonander. Vogel complemented the six-foot-one Powell, Wyo. native and said, "Rachel will give us a physical presence...She gives us a lot of different options on where to put her on the floor as she is able to step out and hit the three in addition to putting her back to the basket and overpowering her defender. She is a perfect fit for our system and culture." In 2018, Bonander was selected named to the Wyoming Coaches Association Class 3A All-State Girls basketball team.

Fernandez comes to TAMIU all the way from Madrid, Spain where she was a member of the Spanish national team. Vogel commented on her other achievements on the court, "She is not only a member of the Spanish national basketball team, she is an MVP in their highest league. Clara is another long guard that can play multiple positions and can beat you in a number of different ways."

The new-look Dustdevils boast talent from all over the world and across the United States. They look to be a major threat as they enter the Lone Star Conference next season.
