LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International men's soccer (2-0-0) continues its road slate with two non-conference matches against Westminster College (2-0-0) and Dixie State University (1-1-0) at Trailblazer Stadium in St. George, Utah.
TAMIU looks to continue its success from last week on the pitch after starting their season with two wins. Midfielder Ruben Nielsen played a key role as he scored two goals and registered game highs of seven shots, with four shots on goal, to lead the Dustdevils to a 2-1 road victory over South Dakota School of Mines. The Kerteminde, Denmark native currently leads the Lone Star Conference in shots (13) and points (5) while he is tied for first in goals scored (2).
Westminster College heads into the game after shutting out both Hawai'i Pacific University, 2-0, and Cal State East Bay, 4-0. In goal for the Griffins was sophomore Will Desantis who recorded a combined 11 saves in the victories. In eight games in goal a season ago, Desantis went 7-1-0 and recorded four shutouts. On the offensive side, freshman Max Bingman recorded a goal in each match for the Griffins.
Kickoff is slated for Friday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m.
Dixie State kicked off its season on the road against No. 14 Midwestern State in a 2-0 loss. They then shutout DBU as Guglielmo Bianchi netted the lone goal of the match in the 26th minute while senior netminder Zach Nielson secured his eighth-career shutout win. Nielson currently holds the record for most career wins as a goalkeeper in DSU history (22).
Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 15 at 2:30 p.m.
