ODESSA, Texas – Texas A&M International University men's soccer (4-0-1) claimed a 3-1 road victory over Lone Star Conference foe, UT Permian Basin (2-3-0). The Dustdevils now improve to 7-4-0 in their previous 11 road matches against the Falcons.
In the 32nd minute, TAMIU broke the scoring ice when Ruben Nielsen beat Falcon goalkeeper, Alfonso Aragon for the lone goal of the first half.
The Dustdevils had the majority of scoring opportunities in the opening stanza as they had seven shots along with a pair of corner kicks.
In the second half, David Martinez finished a feed from Diego Meda to give TAMIU a two-goal advantage with 54:16 showing on the game clock (2-0).
Only 2:39 later, Elias Perales added to the Dustdevils' scoring barrage on a feed from Nielsen to give them a comfortable three-goal cushion (3-0).
In the 81st minute the Falcons converted on their lone goal of the match when Salvador Vargas Ramos put the ball past Dustdevil netminder Josh Jones to cut the Dustdevils' lead to a pair of goals (3-1).
The Dustdevils would ultimately settle the 3-1 victory and extend their unbeaten streak to five matches.
TAMIU held the advantage in shots (18-10) and shots on goal (12-8). The Dustdevils and Falcons took four corner kicks apiece.
Jones made seven saves for the Dustdevils and Aragon made nine stops for UT Permian Basin in defeat.
The Dustdevils will return home on Thursday, Sept. 26 for their Lone Star Conference opener against St. Mary's University at 7 p.m.
