LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's basketball (7-11, 4-8 LSC) dropped a 68-60 Lone Star Conference home decision to the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds (12-5, 6-5 LSC) on Thursday evening.
The Dustdevils came out strong as they registered the first six points of the game, five of which were scored by Josselin Geer.Â
Eastern New Mexico countered quickly as Natalie Stice and Zamorye Cox knocked down back-to-back three pointers, respectively, to knot the game at six apiece with 6:46 showing on the game clock.
In the final 2:51 of the first quarter, the Dustdevils used a 10-2 run that featured layups by Julynne Da Silva Sa, Josselin Geer and Patrycja Jaworska, respectively, to give them a nine-point advantage (19-10).Â
In the opening 4:34 of the second quarter, the Greyhounds shrunk their deficit to three (20-17) by going on a 7-1 spurt that featured a layup and a trio of free throws made by Natalie DeLonge.Â
TAMIU would pick its lead back up to seven when Clara Fernandez connected from long distance to send the 29-22 game into the break.Â
The Greyhounds compiled a 9-2 run in the opening 1:41 of the third quarter as Stice both started and capped off the offensive barrage with a shot from beyond the arc to knot the game at 31 apiece.Â
Although Patrycja Jaworska dropped in a layup to close out the third quarter, the Greyhounds took a 47-42 lead.Â
The Dustdevils showed their resiliency as they overcame a seven-point deficit by making a 8-2 run that was ignited by a Jaworska triple and was capped off on a shot from downtown by Christine Ortega to tie the game at 53 with 5:15 left in regulation.
TAMIU would then score five-straight points on a Jaworska three-pointer and a layup by Nicole Heyn to take a one-point edge with 2:39 to play (60-59).Â
The Greyhounds scored the final nine points of the game to settle the 68-60 final.
Jaworska paced the Dustdevils with 21 points (7-of-13 FG, 5-of-6 FT) and four steals while Geer finished with 10 points and a season-high nine rebounds. Heyn also tallied 10 points while grabbing seven boards.

Stice led all scorers with 22 points (8-of-14 FG, 6-of-11 3FG) and nabbed four steals. DeLonge put together a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds.Â
In the end, Texas A&M International shot 38.5 percent (20-of-52) from the field, 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from three-point range and 68.2 percent (15-of-22) from the free-throw line while Eastern New Mexico shot 39.1 percent (25-of-64) from the floor, 38.5 percent (10-of-26) from beyond the arc and 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the charity stripe. The Greyhounds held the advantage in rebounds (41-32) and assists (11-10). TAMIU led the way in blocks (3-2).
TAMIU remains at home on Saturday, January 25 and will host a LSC matchup against No. 21 West Texas A&M (17-3, 10-1 LSC) at 1 p.m.
