Jaworska nets season-high 28 points at Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. – Texas A&M International University women's basketball (7-13, 4-10 LSC) fell to the Cameron Aggies (8-11, 7-6 LSC) by a score of 95-85 in a Lone Star Conference road decision on Thursday evening.

In the opening 4:08 of play, the Aggies jumped out to an early double-digit lead courtesy of a trio of three-pointers that were knocked down by Ava Battese to put Cameron up 14-4. 

The Dustdevils battled back as they used a 10-2 run that was ignited on a layup by Patrycja Jaworska and was capped off at the 2:21 mark when Julynne Da Silva Sa found Josselin Geer beyond the arc to slash Cameron's lead to one (18-17). 

Cameron's Maighan Hedge would later knock down a pair of three-pointers to conclude the first quarter at a score of 25-19 in favor of the home team.

In the second stanza, Battese continued to display her ability to shoot from long distance as she connected on three more shots from beyond the arc to give Cameron a 42-29 advantage with 5:55 on the clock. 

TAMIU's Clara Fernandez, Jaworska and Da Silva Sa all connected on shots from the free-throw line, respectively, before Geer converted on a three-point play to trim its deficit to eight (49-41) heading into the break.

In the first 1:37 of the third period, the Dustdevils would close the gap five (54-49) with the help of Jaworska's seven points. 

Hedge countered for the Aggies and used nine third-quarter points to give them a 73-64 lead heading into the last quarter. 

In the final period, Cameron would ultimately hang on to the lead with the help of seven-consecutive points in a span of 41 seconds (5:11-4:30) to settle the 95-85 victory for the Aggies.

Jaworska paced the Dustdevils and compiled a season-high 28 points (9-of-15 FG, 4-of-6 3FG, 6-of-8 FT) and led all rebounders with seven. Jaden Gonzales dished out a season-high five assists. 

Battese finished the game with 31 points (11-of-17 FG) including nine three-pointers while Hedge tallied 27 points (8-of-14 FG, 6-of-6 FT) and a game-high nine assists for Cameron.   

In the end, Texas A&M International shot 45.9 percent (28-of-61) from the field, 48 percent (12-of-25) from three-point range and 70.8 percent (17-of-24) from the free-throw line while Cameron shot 51.6 percent (32-of-62) from the floor, 52.9 percent (18-of-34) from beyond the arc and 76.5 percent (13-of-17) from the charity stripe. The Aggies held the advantage in rebounds (37-31), assists (28-17) and steals (9-7) while the Dustdevils led the way in blocks (5-2).

TAMIU remains on the road on Saturday, February 1 to take on Midwestern State (7-10, 5-8 LSC) at 2 p.m which will air on ESPN3 here.
