LAREDO, Texas -Â Texas A&M International baseball (5-12, 5-12 LSC) fell in a doubleheader to Lubbock Christian (5-12, 5-12 LSC) on Saturday.
GAME 1 - LCU 9, TAMIU 2
LCU got on the board in the first inning with a sacrifice fly to right for an early 1-0 lead. The Dustdevils responded by taking the lead 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning. Jerry Villareal brought home Anthony Handel with a RBI single to right. Andrew Holsey scored on a Paris Johnson RBI single to third.
The Chaps tied it up 2-2 in the second with a RBI single. They retook the lead 4-2 in the fifth with a two-run home run.
LCU put the game out of reach in the seventh, scoring five runs for a 9-2 victory. A solo homer to right scored the first run. A bases-clearing, three RBI double to left put them up 8-2. The final run came in on a RBI single to center.
LCU's Armando Valle (2-2) earned the win. TAMIU's Hugo Mendiola took the loss (0-2).
GAME 2 - LCU 8, TAMIU 4
After both pitchers pitch scoreless frames in the first, the Chaps broke the seal with three runs in the top of the second. A bases loaded walk brought in the first run. A sacrifice fly to center scored another run, with the final run coming in on a RBI single to left.Â
The Dustdevils responded in the bottom half, scoring two runs to cut the lead to 3-2. Issac Gonzalez scored thanks to an Antonio Buentello RBI single to center. Sergio Esqueda scored on a Phillip Sanchez RBI single to center.Â
LCU added two runs in the top of the fourth to push out to a 5-2 lead. An RBI single to left scored one run, with an RBI single to center scoring the other. TAMIU responded in the bottom half with two runs of their own to trim the deficit to 5-4. Anthony Handel brought home both Buentello and Esqueda with a two RBI single to left.
The Chaps put the game out of reach in the top of the sixth with a three-run homer to center for the 8-4 victory.
LCU's Cade Acrey (1-0) earned the win in the decision. TAMIU's Justin Rumley (1-4) took the loss.
The series concludes on Sunday.
