Vogel Adds Jazmine Covington

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University head women's basketball coach Nate Vogel announced the signing of Jaminze Covington on Thursday.

"The TAMIU coaching staff presented wonderful patience in the recruiting process which really stood out to me," Covington said. "I'm very excited to play for Coach Vogel, as he is trusting and invested in my game. On and off the court, I know I'm going to enjoy my last year at TAMIU."

Covington, a Phoenix, Ariz. Native, most recently played for NCAA Division I Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Loyola Chicago. During her time as a Rambler, Covington saw action in 23 games. Her best game resulted in 16 points, four rebounds and five assists against Evansville in the MVC Tournament. Before her time at Loyola, Covington spent two years at NJCAA's Phoenix College. In her first season, Covington averaged 11.8 points and six rebounds, while shooting 41% from the floor. In her second season, she upped her points per game average to 17.5 and scored double figures 26 of 31 games. She was named a NJCAA Division II First-Team All-American.

A graduate of Thunderbird High School, she averaged 13.2 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals per game and was garnered a First Team All-Section and Division II All-State Honorable Mention selection.

Covington becomes the third Division I transfer to call TAMIU home, joining Raneem El Barky (Seattle U) and Bre DeLon (ULM). Altogether, Vogel's recruiting class for the 2020-21 season reaches nine.
