COMMERCE, Texas – Texas A&M International volleyball began its weekend road trip in Commerce, Texas against Texas A&M-Commerce. In the end it was the Lions (7-7, 6-3 LSC) topping the Dustdevils (2-13, 2-6 LSC), 3-1.

The Dustdevils struggled early, falling in set one 25-14. In set two, TAMIU fought in the second set to a 25-20 final, despite falling.

In set three, the Dustdevils played a back and forth set, and at one point took a four point (13-9) lead. Commerce found a way to push within one, until TAMIU stormed for five consecutive points to take a 22-16 lead.

After exchanging points and holding a 24-18 lead, the Dustdevils had to fight to put the Lions away, when Commerce reeled off four straight points to make it 24-22. TAMIU closed the victorious set to win 25-22 with a kill by senior
Mackenzie Catalina.

In set four, the Lions jumped ahead early 6-1, forcing the Dustdevils to fight back. TAMIU did just that, ultimately taking a 15-14 lead after a 5-0 run when trailing 14-10.

After alternating points and the Dustdevils leading 20-19, Commerce would go on a 6-0 run to end the match with a 25-20 set victory.

Catalina would lead the team with 10 kills on the night, while junior
Hannah Thompson followed with nine kills and sophomore
Yaretzi Ortiz finished with eight.

Four Dustdevils had double-digit digs, including senior
Deserey Gomez who led the way with 24. Senior
Maison Kosse ended the night with 16 kills, graduate student
Ilina Spasova had 14 and Catalina finished with 10.

Kosse had a team high 20 assists, while freshman
Isabella Martinez chipped in 10.

The Dustdevils will look to change their fortunes tomorrow afternoon against UT Tyler. Match time from Tyler, Texas is set for 1 p.m.
