TAMIU Athletics And Dustdevil Baseball Thank Moss and Reyes As They Accept New Positions

LAREDO, Texas – After one season dawning a Dustdevil uniform as coaches, assistants Brock Moss and Luis Reyes are taking the next step in their respective coaching careers. Moss has accepted the head coaching position at Coastal Alabama Community College - Brewton, while Reyes will join Major League Baseball's Minnesota Twins organization.

"I want to personally thank and congratulate both Brock Moss and Luis Reyes for their time here with Dustdevil Baseball," said TAMIU head baseball coach Philip Middleton." "When they came aboard, I asked them to help me change this program forever and I firmly believe they did that. Both were outstanding recruiters, coaches, and leaders. I cannot thank them enough for their friendship and dedication to myself and to this team. They are both moving into great jobs that are the ideal next step in their coaching careers and I have no doubt that they will continue to be successful."

Moss will enter his first head coaching position upon his departure from Laredo, joining Coastal Alabama Community College - Brewton.

"Brock was my first ever hire at TAMIU and I am fortunate that I was able to hang on to him for this long," said Middleton. "He has an outstanding pitching mind, tireless work ethic, and eye for talent in recruiting. He is ready for the challenges that come with being a head coach and will attack that opportunity just like he did in his time with Dustdevil Baseball."

During his time at TAMIU, Moss was both the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. He helped to guide junior Abanny Garcia to an All-LSC Honorable Mention Award. On the recruiting side, Moss helped lead the Dustdevils to a top 30 recruiting class in all of NCAA Division II and the best in the LSC.
Before joining TAMIU, he spent four seasons at Georgia Highlands College managing the pitching staff and overseeing recruiting, associate head coach at Andrew College and pitching coach at Ecclesia College.

Fellow assistant Luis Reyes on the other hand will be heading to the Major's, as he will join the Minnesota Twins organization as a hitting coach for one of their Minor League affiliates.

"Luis was as good as they come at this level of college baseball," says Middleton. "I knew it was only a matter of time before he landed a big opportunity to climb the ladder into bigger and better things. His ability to develop hitters and relate to them on a personal level is unmatched. This promotion for him is long overdue. We are excited to continue following his future in professional baseball."

Reyes was a vital part of helping the Dustdevil offense, as the team had an OPS of .678 with 74 extra base hits in 35 games. In the shortened year, six players had five or more doubles, while nine had 10 or more RBI. He also helped grow the plate discipline, as TAMIU drew 130 on the season, only 30 fewer than the full season in 2019.

Prior to his stint with the Dustdevils, Reyes spent three seasons at Northwestern Oklahoma State University as the hitting and infield coach, as well as director of player development. He also spent time at Murray State College as an assistant, was a head coach at Marietta (Okla.) High School and began his career as a volunteer assistant at Clarke University.
