KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M International volleyball (1-3, 1-3 LSC) fell 3-0 (20-25, 25-27, 18-25) to Texas A&M-Kingsville (3-0, 3-0 LSC) on Tuesday.

Junior Mackenzie Catalina led the Dustdevils with 13 kills, six digs, one assist and a service ace. Sophomore Skylar Warde posted 12 kills with four digs and a block. Junior Maison Kosse put up a double-double with 31 assists and 14 digs as well as three kills. On the defensive side, junior Regina Tijerina contributed 18 digs with two assists and a service ace.

TAMIU started hot as they took an early 9-5 lead to open the first set. However, later in the set the Javelinas exploded with a 7-0 run to take the lead at 18-15. The Dustdevils rebounded with a 4-0 run of their own to retake the advantage 19-18. Unfortunately, TAMUK responded by closing out the set on a 7-1 run to take the 25-20 decision.

The second set was extremely close though the midway point with nine ties and two lead changes. With the score tied at 10-10, TAMIU began to pull away thanks to a 6-1 run that gave them a 15-11 lead. They continued to add to the lead with small runs pushing out to 18-13. However, the Javelinas began to slowly fight back and managed to tie things at 20-20. TAMIU managed to hold a slim lead and get to set point at 25-24, but TAMUK responded with three-straight points to take the frame 27-25.

Once again, things were tight in the early goings of the third set with four ties and one lead change. The Javelinas broke things open with a 6-1 run to go up 12-8. For the remainder of the set, every time the Dustdevils would get close to coming back TAMUK would go on a point run that pushed their lead further out. They eventually took the set and the match with a 25-18 decision.

The two teams will square off again in the series finale on Wednesday with first serve set for 6 p.m.
