Dustdevils Use Late Comeback To Force A Draw Against UT Permian Basin

ODESSA, Texas – Texas A&M International women's soccer (2-2-1, 1-1-1 LSC) scored two goals in a 7:02 span over the last 10:08 of the second half to comeback and force a 2-2 draw against UT Permian Basin (0-5-1, 0-2-1 LSC).

UT Permian Basin had the Dustdevils on their heels early, scoring just 40 seconds into the game.
 
The Falcons added to their lead at the 37:57 on a goal from Olivia Rees.
 
In the first half, UT Permian Basin held a slim 4-3 edge in shots, putting three on the net. TAMIU was able to get one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes.
 
The second half was all Dustdevils and with 10:08 remaining, TAMIU finally got a goal across. At 79:52, junior Tritch Ann Grant scored her first goal of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1.
 
Just 7:02 later, the Dustdevils completed the comeback when freshman Andrea Castellanos scored her first collegiate goal on a penalty kick to tie the game 2-2.
 
TAMIU outshot the Falcons 14-5 in the second half and put nine shots on goal to UT Permian Basin's three.
 
In the two 10-minute overtime periods, the Falcons outshot the Dustdevils 5-4.
 
For the game, TAMIU outshot UT Permian Basin 21-14 and in shots on goal 13-7. Corner kicks were highly in favor of the Dustdevils, 17-2.
 
Senior Valeria Macias led the way offensively with five shots taken, putting three on the net. Grant added four shots and put all four on net, while five other Dustdevils put a combined six shots on goal.
 
Reigning LSC Goalkeeper of the Week, freshman Alicia Huerta, faced seven shots on the night, saving five shots. Her record is now 1-0-1 on the season.

The Dustdevils have two games remaining in the 2021 Spring season, both at home. The next contest is Wednesday March 24 against Lubbock Christian and kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
