CANYON, Texas – Texas A&M International volleyball's run in the Lone Star Conference Tournament ended in the semifinals, falling to #2 DBU by a score of 3-1.
 
The Dustdevils (23-8, 13-3 LSC) jumped ahead in the match, taking the opening set 25-22.
 
The two trade point early, until DBU (25-5, 14-2 LSC) sparked to take a 13-9 lead. TAMIU countered with an 8-0 run to lead 17-13 and would move on to take the set.
 
In set two, the Dustdevils were ahead at the midway point, 15-14, but an untimely 7-0 run for the Patriots made the score 21-15 and the set concluded at a score of 25-19.
 
Set three saw TAMIU again leading 11-10, before another DBU run, this time a 4-0 run made the score 14-11 and the Patriots would hold that lead to win 25-17.
 
Set four was all DBU early, jumping ahead 7-0 then 11-3, until the Dustdevils sparked with a 7-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to 11-10. However, the Patriots countered with 6-0 run to open the lead up yet again and close the set with another 25-17 final.
 
Sophomore Giulia Hortelan finished with her second double-double of the tournament, having a team best 14 kills with 11 digs.
 
Graduate student Mackenzie Catalina followed with 12 kills and 11 digs for her own double-double, while senior Megan Manchaca added 10 kills.
 
Freshman setter Emma Lade added 41 assists, while junior Daniela Sandoval had a team high 13 digs defensively.
 
While TAMIU's run in the LSC Tournament comes to an end, the season itself may still continue. The Dustdevils now will await to see whether or not they make the 2022 NCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament, with the selection show taking place at 10:30 p.m. EST/9:30 p.m. CST on Sunday, Nov. 13.
