CANYON, Texas – Texas A&M International volleyball closed the 2022 regular season against Lone Star Conference regular season champion, #11 West Texas A&M, falling to the Lady Buffs 3-0.

Despite the loss, TAMIU (22-7, 13-3 LSC) will be locked in as the three seed in the upcoming Lone Star Conference Tournament.

The Dustdevils battled in set one, as the score was 13-13 just about halfway through. However, a 7-0 West Texas A&M run made the score 20-13, allowing the final score to end at 25-18.

In set two, TAMIU jumped ahead 6-1 early, and still led 13-7 at the midway point. Yet again, the Lady Buffs would use two 5-1 runs and a 7-1 run to come back and take the set 25-19.

The final set was heavily in favor of West Texas A&M, jumping ahead 16-5 to close out the victory with a 25-13 set final.

Sophomore Giulia Hortelan finished with a team-high nine kills and added eight digs defensively.

It was a quiet afternoon for graduate student
Mackenzie Catalina and senior Megan Menchaca, as the two had just five and four kills respectively.

Sophomore Lixai Perez was the team leader defensively with 10 digs, while freshman setter Emma Lade had just 18 assists.

With the 2022 regular season behind them, the Dustdevils as previously mentioned locked in the three seed for the Lone Star Conference Tournament. The ladies will stay in Canyon as West Texas A&M will host the LSC Tournament, and TAMIU will face the sixth seeded St. Mary's Rattlers on Thursday, Nov. 10 at a time yet to be determined.

Aligned on the same side of the bracket will be seconded seeded DBU and seventh seeded UAFS.

The Dustdevils faced the Rattlers once in the 2022 regular season, sweeping St. Mary's 3-0 on Oct. 19 with scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-19.
