RICHARDSON, Texas - Texas A&M International University junior wing,
Emily Swiercz, was named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Swiercz was an all-around threat for TAMIU in its 1-1 weekend. Starting in Thursday's 60-47 win over Lubbock Christian, Swiercz ended the night with 14 points behind 4-for-6 shooting from three, had two assists, one block and a game high four steals.
The Dustdevils held the Lady Chaps to their lowest point total (47) and shooting percentage (32.1%) this year and in the last 33 games, as well as forced 22 turnovers, the most in a game by LCU since March 2019.
Swiercz followed that performance in a near upset of No. 2 West Texas A&M (74-67) with a team-high 16 points and added another four steals to give her eight total on the weekend.
