TYLER, Texas – After a tough opening series loss, followed by a Saturday postponement, Texas A&M International baseball split its doubleheader on Sunday against UT Tyler to make it a 2-1 series heading into game four on Monday.

GAME 1: UT Tyler 4 Texas A&M International 3

UT Tyler was the first to hit the scoreboard in the bottom of the second when they took a 2-0 lead on a sacrifice fly and a bunt single.

TAMIU then responded for three runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 3-2 lead.

In the second inning, senior
Ronnie Bailey doubled home two runs, then in the third inning, junior
Mario Chacon doubled in a run to give the Dustdevils the lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Patriots pushed across two runs on RBI singles to give them the eventual victory.

Senior
Abanny Garcia work 3.2 innings in the start and allowed two runs, five hits, walked four and struck out three.

Sophomore Adrian talavera worked 1.1 innings of relief and allowed one run, one hit and struck out one, while junior
Arthur Galvan allowed one run and three hits.
Â
Bailey and Chacon were the only Dustdevils to add hits to the column as both went 2-for-3 at the plate.

GAME 2: Texas A&M International 4 UT Tyler 2

TAMIU bounced right back in game three of the series and the second game of the doubleheader with a hot start offensively.

In the first two innings, the Dustdevils scored three runs, including two in the first off a double by junior
Beto Cervantes and an error by UT Tyler.
Â
In the second inning, TAMIU grew its lead to 3-0 thank to a solo home run by junior
Antonio Buentello.
Â
UT Tyler brought across two runs to trim the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, but in the top of the seventh, the Dustdevils earned an insurance run on yet another Buentello solo home run to go up 4-2.

Sophomore
Jan Cabrera had another fantastic start, throwing a complete game, allowing two runs, five hits, two walks and striking out four.
Â
Buentello led the way at the dish with a 2-for-3 outing with the two solo home runs, while junior
Leeandro Alfonzo, Bailey and Cervantes each added a hit.

TAMIU looks to finish the series even with the Patriots as they square-off in the finale tomorrow at 1 p.m. from Tyler, Texas.
