LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball had a chance to split the season series against UAFS, but ultimately fell to the Lions 8-3 in game four of the series.

It was the Lions (5-7, 5-7 LSC) got things started quickly, with three first inning runs off two home runs to take the early lead.

TAMIU (5-8, 5-7 LSC) cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a two RBI double by junior
Beto Cervantes.
Â
UAFS, however, quickly grew the lead, scoring another three runs in the top of the fifth to thwart the Dustdevils momentum and take a 6-2 lead.

TAMIU got its final run of the game on an RBI single by junior
Matt Kissamis to cut the deficit in half to 6-3, but the Lions again responded to score two in the top of the eighth and take home the 8-3 victory.

Senior
Joseph Garza-Delapena got the start and pitched two innings, allowing three runs, five hits, two walks and struck out all six of his outs.

Fellow senior
Andrew Pavon worked three innings of relief, allowing three runs, six hits, one walk and struck out two.

Sophomore
Adrian Talavera threw 2.2 innings, giving up two runs, two hits, one walk and fanned one Lion, while junior
Arthur Galvan pitched the final 1.1 innings and allowed three hits.

The Dustdevils collected seven hits throughout the game with junior
Leeandro Alfonzo leading the way with a 2-for-4 afternoon, while five others chipped in a single hit.

TAMIU prepares for its second road trip of the season, as they head to Edmond, Okla. to face Oklahoma Christian, with the series beginning Friday, Feb. 25 at 5 p.m.
