Kissamis Matches LSC Record Three Homers, Sets Program Record With 10 RBI Lead Dustdevils Past Rattlers 13-3

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball's offense exploded early and behind a program record 10 RBI from junior Matt Kissamis, the Dustdevils defeated St. Mary's in game one of the series, 13-3 in eight innings.

Kissamis matched a Lone Star Conference record for home runs in a game with three and came just one RBI shy of the LSC record of 11.
 
After holding the Rattlers (4-11, 2-11 LSC) scoreless in the top of the first, TAMIU (8-11, 8-9 LSC) plated five in the bottom of the first to take a commanding lead early.
 
Kissamis started the scoring with a grand slam, bringing home the first three batters of the game who reached.
 
The eighth batter of the inning, junior Beto Cervantes drove in the fifth run on an RBI single.
 
St. Mary's plated one run in the top of the second inning, but the Dustdevils would respond with two more runs to take a 7-1 lead.
 
Kissamis picked up his fifth RBI of the game on an RBI single, followed by another RBI single by junior Mario Chacon.
 
The Rattlers added one in the third to make it 7-2 and junior Leeandro Alfonzo followed in the bottom of the third to make it 8-2 on a sacrifice fly.
 
After a scoreless fourth and fifth innings, Kissamis drove in runs six, seven and eight on the day with his second home run, a three-run shot, to make it 11-2.
 
St. Mary's added its final run of the game in the seventh inning on a solo home run.
 
TAMIU ended the game in the bottom of the eighth when Kissamis did it again, his third home run of the day and RBI nine and 10 to seal the victory in eight innings.
 
Freshman Christopher Sauceda continued his strong start to the season, allowing two runs, seven hits, one walk and fanned five over six innings of work.
 
Sophomore Rolando Riza allowed one run and two hits in the seventh inning, followed by junior Arthur Galvan who allowed one hit, one walk and struck out one in the eighth.
 
TAMIU collected 14 hits, with Kissamis' 4-for-5, three runs, four runs scored and 10 RBI leading the charge.
 
Graduate student Daniel Hernandez (2-for-3; 1 BB), senior Ronnie Bailey (2-for-2; 3 BB) and Cervantes (2-for-3; 1 BB) all had a multi-hit game as well.
 
The Dustdevils start the series hot and now look to tomorrow, Saturday Mar. 5, doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
