RICHARDSON, Texas – Texas A&M International University student-athlete Sammantha Herrera has been awarded the Lone Star Conference Degree Completion Program Scholarship, the conference announced on Thursday.
The purpose of the LSC Degree Completion Program is to provide financial assistance for completion of a first baccalaureate degree to deserving student-athletes in the conference. The scholarship funds are used to go toward tuition and to offset the cost of attendance (fees, books, housing, etc.). To maintain this scholarship, students-athletes must complete at least 12 hours of study with at least a 2.0 GPA.
Herrera, a San Antonio native, is working to complete her bachelor's degree in nursing. She spent four years with TAMIU volleyball, beginning her career in 2018, appearing in 75 matches, playing in 215. She recorded 335 kills, 150 digs, 44 blocks and 11 service aces in her tenure as a Dustdevil.
On September 17, 2021 against Midwestern State, Herrera set her careers high with 19 kills, swinging a career best 50 times in the match.
