SILVER CITY, N.M. – Texas A&M International volleyball made its five straight victories, defeating Western New Mexico 3-2 in Friday's Lone Star Conference matchup.

The Mustangs (2-12, 0-2 LSC) opened with a set victory, 25-19 to put the Dustdevils behind.

TAMIU (11-3, 2-0 LSC) then settled in and cruised to a dominating 25-9 second set win, which included an 11-0 run from the score being 11-7 until 22-7.

The Dustdevils then made it a 2-1 contest with a 25-18 third set win, but couldn't close out Western New Mexico in four sets, as the Mustangs forced a fifth set with a 25-20 victory.

In the tiebreak set, TAMIU cruised to 15-8 victory and start 2-0 in conference play for the first time since joining NCAA Division II.

Mackenzie Catalina had 22 kills to lead the team, hitting .391 on the night and added 13 digs for the double-double.

Megan Menchaca followed with 18 kills, while sophomore
Giulia Hortelan added 14 kills and 20 digs for her own double-double. Sophomore
Lixai Perez was the team leader in digs with 22.

Emma Lade had her second consecutive 50+ assist game, with 51 over the five sets, along with 13 digs for the double-double.

The Dustdevils conclude their non-conference schedule on Thursday, Sept. 22 against Texas A&M-Kingsville. Opening serve is slated for 6 p.m. in Kingsville, Texas.
