SAN ANGELO, Texas – Texas A&M International softball continued its time at the George & Ola McCormick Challenge on Saturday with doubleheader action for a second consecutive day. The Dustdevils walked off game one of the day against East Central 2-1 in extra innings, but would fall to Angelo State 4-3 in walk-off fashion to close the day.

GAME 1: TAMIU 2 East Central 1 F/9

After a quick two innings, East Central (0-3, 0-0 GAC) would score first in the top of the third, taking a 1-0 lead.

TAMIU (4-5, 0-0 LSC) had ample chances over the first six innings to score, but just weren't able to push through, leaving at least one runner in scoring position four of those six innings.

Finally, in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Dustdevils broke through to tie the game 1-1 on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Tajanae Davis to send the game into extra innings.

In the bottom of the ninth, freshman Katelyn Luera started the inning with a triple and two batters later, sophomore Kristin Maldonado singled in Luera for the victory.

Sophomore Carla Arellano got the start and had a tremendous game in the circle, allowing one run, five hits and striking out four over 7.1 innings pitched.

In relief, senior Darrian Smith picked up her first win of the season, throwing 1.2 innings of no-hit ball.

The Dustdevils offensively collected four hits, with Maldonado's 2-for-5 leading the way, while six others collected a hit.

GAME 2: #18 Angelo State 4 TAMIU 3

TAMIU brought the late game magic from game one into the start of game two, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Smith drove in both runs with a single down the right field line.

The Dustdevils (4-6, 0-0 LSC) tacked on its final run of the game in the top of the third when graduate Victoria Maldonado scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

Angelo State (7-3, 0-0 LSC) would begin chipping away in the bottom of the fifth, making it 3-2 on a two-run home run, then tying the game 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth on a double.

The Rambelles would punctuate the victory with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the comeback win.

Junior Erika Cortez got the start for TAMIU and in 6+ innings allowed four runs (three earned), six hits, and struck out seven in the complete game.

Offensively, the Dustdevils collected three hits, with Victoria Maldonado, Davis and Smith all combining for the total.

TAMIU will conclude its trip to San Angelo, Texas at 12 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12, against Angelo State for the third time in as many days.
