Richardson, Texas-DBU senior midfielder Taylor Tufts claimed the Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Year Award for the second consecutive season to highlight the league's postseason awards, it was announced Thursday by LSC officials at the championship reception.
Tufts, who is from Southlake, Texas, also took home the LSC Midfielder of the Year Award. She had 22 points (eight goals and six assists) and was second in the conference in both shots (64) and shots on goal (29). Tufts had two game-winning goals. Her play helped the Patriots, who registered 11 shutouts, to a top-10 nationally-ranking and runner-up finish in the conference.
LSC champion Angelo State had the Defensive Player of the Year (sophomore Christian Clark), Goalkeeper of the Year (senior Amber Lockwood) and Coaching Staff of the Year (head coach Travis McCorckle, assistant coach Harold Munoz and graduate assistant Julia Lashlee).
Oklahoma Christian senior forward Kyla Lovelace was the Forward of the Year and St. Edward's forward Annie Rocha was the Freshman of the Year.
The. Newcomer of the Year Award was shared by DBU junior midfielder Anne Louthan and Midwestern State junior midfielder Nyxalee Munoz.
Tufts, Clark, Lockwood, Lovelace and Rocha were also All-Conference First Team selections. Louthan and Munoz were second team selections.
Rocha also headlined 13 players on the All-Freshman Team.
Overall, 46 student-athletes were honored by the all-conference program, which also included a Third Team. The awards are voted on by the league's head coaches.
