Kingsville, Texas – The Dustdevils (5-16, 2-9) traveled to Kingsville to take on the Javelinas (15-4, 8-3) in Lone Star Conference play Tuesday evening. The Javelinas took both games of the doubleheader by scores of 2-0 and 9-2.
Game 1
The Dustdevils sent
Carla Arellano to the mound for game one of Tuesday's doubleheader.
The Javelinas got on the board first courtesy of an RBI double in the second inning before adding one more run in the bottom of the third with a solo home run.
Arellano allowed just two runs on five hits to the Javelinas with four walks and one strikeout.
Javelinas' pitcher Beth Montes gave up five hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Kristy Alanis,
Kennedy Griego,
Victoria Maldonado and
Alondra Rodriguez all recorded hits in the game.
Alex Hernandez reached twice with a walk in the second inning and a single in the top of the seventh.
Game 2
In game two of Tuesday's doubleheader,
Kylie Goad took the mound for the Dustdevils.
TAMUK jumped out the gates offensively, adding one run in each of the first three innings.
The Dustdevils got one back in the top of the fourth with
Victoria Espinoza bringing in
Victoria Gonzalez on a fielder's choice making the score 3-1 in favor of the Javelinas.
TAMUK brought their lead back to three with a sac fly in the bottom of the inning.
Alana Garcia brought the Dustdevils back within two with a sac fly in the top of the sixth, bringing in
Alex Hernandez.
A five-spot for the Javelinas in the bottom of the sixth secured the 9-2 victory.
Goad finished her night pitching five innings and allowing six runs on eight hits with four runs and two strikeouts.
Celeste Apaez and
Zakayia Fredrick both appeared in relief.
The Dustdevil offense recorded ten hits in the contest behind
Kennedy Griego,
Victoria Gonzalez and
Sarah Chavez's two-hit efforts.
The Dustdevils look to bounce back in the series finale against TAMUK on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
