Hernandez Leads Dustdevils Past Lumberjacks 6-1

Conroe, Texas – In their final game of the 2024 DII First Pitch Invitational hosted by UT Tyler, the Dustdevils (3-3) finished on a high, defeating Cal Poly Humboldt (2-4) 6-1.

Freshman Kylie Goad started on the mound and was lights out, allowing just one hit through three innings.

The Dustdevil offense got things going in the bottom of the third after a walk to Kristy Alanis and singles from Kennedy Griego and Victoria Gonzalez loaded the bases with just one out. Alex Hernandez knocked in two with a single to give TAMIU an early lead.

Goad pitched 4.2 innings for the Dustdevils allowing just three hits, one run and two walks with two strikeouts. Tessa Ramirez came in to close out the fifth inning with the Lumberjacks getting one run back.

TAMIU quickly got that run back as a fielder's choice brought Victoria Maldonado in to score, putting the Dustdevils back up by two.

The Dustdevils extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth thanks to RBIs from Griego and Hernandez.

Celeste Apaez came in for the Dustdevils in the seventh and shut down the Lumberjacks securing the 6-1 win for TAMIU.

Hernandez provided a big offensive spark for the Dustdevils going 3-4 in the contest with three RBIs.

The Dustdevils continue their season in San Angelo, Texas, when they take on Regis and Angelo State Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10.
