Silver City, N.M. – Texas A&M International volleyball battled tough in its Lone Star Conference road test at Western New Mexico, falling 3–1 (13–25, 28–26, 19–25, 22–25) on Thursday night.
The Dustdevils came alive in the second set, where they hit an impressive .351 as a team and outlasted the Mustangs in a thrilling 28–26 win to even the match. TAMIU showed balance offensively, finishing with 49 kills and 42 assists on the night.
Mia Molina led the attack with 18 kills to go along with nine digs, while
Abby Buenrostro added seven kills on an efficient .538 hitting percentage with three blocks. Setter
Natalia Cisneros paced the offense with 33 assists and also chipped in four kills. Defensively,
Samantha Estrada anchored the back row with 16 digs.
Despite the Dustdevils' strong second-set performance and late pushes in the third and fourth frames, Western New Mexico closed out the match to take the 3–1 victory.
TAMIU continues on the road with a match against Sul Ross on Saturday, Oct. 4.
