Laredo, Texas – Texas A&M International volleyball showed fight in the opening set but fell 3-0 (22–25, 14–25, 17–25) to No. 10 West Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
The Dustdevils (2-9, 0-2 LSC) came out strong in the first set, trading points with the Lady Buffs through 12 ties and six lead changes. Fueled by three service aces and 13 kills in the frame, TAMIU pushed WT to the brink before the visitors escaped with a 25–22 win.
Aryana Ledet carried the Dustdevils offensively, finishing with a match-high 18 kills on an impressive .419 hitting percentage while adding seven digs.
Mia Molina contributed eight kills and seven digs, while
Caitlyn Cornell added three blocks at the net. Setters
Natalia Cisneros (19 assists, one ace) and
Dilean Bounds (11 assists, one ace) combined to distribute the offense, with
Sierra Sanchez and
Mia Ramirez also chipping in from the service line.
Defensively, TAMIU tallied 28 digs, led by Molina and Ledet, and totaled three team blocks against one of the nation's top-ranked programs.
The Dustdevils now hit the road to continue conference play, traveling to Silver City, N.M., to face Western New Mexico on Thursday, Oct. 2
