Ciro’s Sizzling Series Earns LSC Weekly Honor

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University baseball standout Ciro Benavides has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week following a dominant performance that helped the Dustdevils secure a key conference series win over UT Permian Basin.

A senior second baseman from Laredo, Texas, Benavides turned in one of the most impressive offensive stretches in the league this season. He hit a scorching .818 (9-for-11) over the series, collecting three doubles, a triple, and driving in eight runs to lead the Dustdevils.

Benavides opened the series with the Lone Star Conference's first five-hit game of the season, going a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with two doubles in the victory. He capped off the weekend by driving in five runs in the series finale to help secure the series win for TAMIU.

Across the series, the senior scored eight runs, drew a walk, was hit by three pitches, and did not record a single strikeout. He also stole a base and was flawless defensively at second base.

"It's an honor to be named Hitter of the Week," said Benavides. "It means a lot to see the work pay off, but I couldn't have done it without my teammates and coaches. This motivates me to stay locked in, keep improving, and help the team any way I can as we move forward this season."

Benavides, a Criminal Justice major, continues to be a key contributor for the Dustdevils both offensively and defensively as TAMIU continues Lone Star Conference play this coming weekend vs UT Tyler.

The weekly honor recognizes the top performer in the conference and highlights Benavides' all-around impact during the series.
