TAMIU Answers with Authority After 10-Inning Setback

LAREDO, Texas — Texas A&M International salvaged a split against UT Permian Basin on Sunday, dropping a 10-inning opener before responding with a dominant run-rule victory in Game 2.

UTPB took the first game, 6-3, in extra innings before the Dustdevils bounced back with a 9-1 win in five innings in the nightcap.

Game 1: UTPB 6, TAMIU 3 (10 innings)

The Dustdevils battled back late but couldn't hold off UT Permian Basin in a marathon opener that stretched to 10 innings.

After trailing 1-0 through four innings, TAMIU broke through in the fifth. Miley Vinton launched a two-run home run and Austyn Marriage followed with a solo shot to give the Dustdevils a 3-1 lead.

UTPB answered in the seventh, capitalizing on defensive miscues to tie the game at 3-3. The Falcons then broke it open in the 10th, scoring three runs to secure the win.

TAMIU managed just four hits in the contest, with Krysta Ruiz recording a pair and Vinton driving in two runs on her homer. Marriage also added a home run and scored once.

In the circle, Nevaeh Herrera tossed 6.2 innings, allowing three runs, while Madison Taylor Gray took the loss in relief.

Game 2: TAMIU 9, UTPB 1 (5 innings)

The Dustdevils responded emphatically in Game 2, erupting early and cruising to a run-rule victory.

TAMIU plated three runs in the first inning and never looked back, adding two runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to secure the win.

Queenandra Dunn powered the offense with a monster performance, going 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI. Austyn Marriage scored three runs and drove in another, while Victoria Espinoza and Madison Taylor Gray each added an RBI.

Kylie Goad delivered a complete-game effort in the circle, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out five over five innings.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Queenandra Dunn delivered the biggest swing of the day in Game 2, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI to lead TAMIU to the run-rule victory. Her power surge flipped the momentum of the doubleheader and fueled the Dustdevils' offensive breakout.
