2017-18:
Appeared in six games playing a total of nine minutes as a freshman. Scored a career-high five points going 2-of-2 from the  field and 1-of-1 from the free throw line at St. Edward’s on Feb. 21. Made his collegiate debut at Dallas Baptist on Jan. 24 playing the final minute of the first half where he attempted a 3-pointer at the buzzer after stealing the ball. 

High School:
Graduated from United High School in Laredo where he starred on the basketball team. He was named the Laredo Morning Times Defensive Player of the Year as a senior while averaging a city-best 3.4 steals per game. He also earned District MVP and 1^st team all-region honors during the 2016-17 season.
 
Personal:
Chapa is the son of Juan and Cynthia Chapa and has one sibling: Samantha. He chose TAMIU because both of parents are alumni and he had a lot of interest in playing for the Dustdevils. His father, Juan, is the most inspirational figure in his life. After graduating, he wants to become an anesthesiologist.
