2017-18:
Ortiz made 22 appearances and 20 starts playing a total of 691 minutes after missing seven games early in the season due to injury. He averaged 9.0 points per game shooting 64-of-168 from the field, 33.6% from 3-point range and 78.9% from the free throw line. He had his best scoring game on Feb. 8 going for 17 points against Oklahoma Christian going 5-of-8 from beyond the arc in the Dustdevils 72-70 overtime victory. Scored in double figures in nine games including the last two games of the year where all 23 points came in the second half. Recorded 3-plus rebounds in nine games including a team-high seven against Wisconsin-Parkside at the River City Classic in San Antonio. Led the team in assists five teams including a pair of five assist games against Randall and Dallas Baptist. 

2015-17: Paris Junior College
Appeared in 22 games making six starts as a redshirt freshman in 2016-17 going 45-of-130 (34.6%) from the field, 29-of-98 (29.6%) from three and 14-of-18 (77.8%) from the charity stripe averaging 6.o points per game. He also contributed 49 rebounds, 41 total rebounds and 15 steals.
 
High School:
Graduate from Madison Memorial High School where he played on the boys’ basketball team.
 
Personal:
Ortiz is the son of Steven Ortiz and Renee Sinden and has two siblings: Steven Jr. and Jordan. He chose TAMIU because of the opportunity he was given to play for a great coach and attend a great school. His inspirational figure is two-time NBA Champion Steph Curry. After graduating, he looks forward to finding a profession that will allow him to work with children.
