Texas A&M International University's cross country teams competed in another early season meet on Saturday morning at the Texas Lutheran Invitational in Seguin. The men finished in fourth place in the team standings in a 7.6K race and the women finished in eighth place in a 5K.
The men finished second amongst non-Division I opponents with Division I squad UT-San Antonio and Texas State finishing first and second and NCAA Division III power Trinity finishing third. TAMIU finished ahead of Prairie Valley, UT-Dallas, Concordia and Howard Payne.
The Dustdevils had four top-20 finishers with Roger Rueweler placing 13th ( 25:27), Artemio Romero in 17th place (26:00), Daniel Alfaro in 18th place (26:05) and Juan Alvarado in 19th place (26:13). Also finishing for the Dustdevils were Alejandro Sifuentes at 26:50, César Pérez at 27:45, J.J.Villalobos at 27:53 and Oscar Béltran at 29:27.
The women were led by Daniela Prado, who finished in 27th place with a 20:20 effort. Also finishing for the Dustdevils were Kassandra Ramírez at 20:41 (32nd), Gloria Ramírez at 20:56 (37th place), Brenda Carrera at 21:14 (40th) and Alexandra Reyes at 22:16 (48th).
Head coach Benny Rodríguez is pleased with today's results.
"The men stepped it up a notch from last week and we could have done better on the women's side but we were without Crystal Dickinson," Rodríguez said.
"It's early but I like what I've seen so far this season. We're going to continue to work hard with our objective of improving every meet."
