FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas A&M International University cross country teams wrapped up competition at the 2025 Lone Star Conference Championships hosted at AP Ranch on Saturday, with both the men's and women's squads earning ninth-place team finishes.
In the women's 6k race, the Dustdevils placed 9th out of 15 competing teams. Freshman Fancy Jelegat led the way once again, placing 15th overall with a time of 22:23.23, marking another strong performance in her debut season. Brenda Chempkemboi followed in 34th at 23:22.63, while
Samantha Viruel crossed in 47th at 24:04.07. Rounding out the scoring for TAMIU were
Mercy Kosgei (63rd, 25:08.95) and
Laura Jeptoo (77th, 26:05.61).
On the men's side, TAMIU also secured 9th place among 13 teams in the 8k championship race.
Ian Rono continued his impressive season with a dominant showing, claiming the individual LSC Championship title with a time of 23:31.49—finishing more than two minutes ahead of the next Dustdevil.
Paul Barmao was the next Dustdevil across the line in 29th place (26:04.09), followed by
Alan Hernandez (49th, 26:57.16),
Diego Pena (70th, 27:59.46), and
Jorge Sanchez (75th, 28:21.50).
The Dustdevils now turn their attention to the NCAA South Central Regional Championships, set to take place in early November.
