TAMIU Soccer to Host Kicks for the Cure

LAREDO, Texas – Thursday night the TAMIU Soccer program will host their inaugural “Kicks for the Cure” breast cancer awareness games, benefitting the family of Maria Elena Delgado.

Mrs. Delgado was born in Laredo, Texas in 1949 and was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2012; she is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment at Doctor’s Hospital.  TAMIU athletics will be donating a portion of the gate as well as collecting donations to help Mrs. Delgado’s family with medical expenses.

Her two daughters, San Juanita Delgado and Brenda Korrody, will be on hand Thursday evening to accept TAMIU’s donation.

“We are so humbled by what TAMIU is doing for us,” said Korrody.  “When we found out that she was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, it was extremely hard for us.  We are doing our best to ensure that she receives the treatment she needs and we are extremely grateful that the Dustdevils soccer program is willing to help.”

TAMIU Head Soccer Coach Claudio Arias is asking the community for a large turnout.
“The more people who attend the game, the more money we can pledge to help Mrs. Delgado.  Breast Cancer is a terrible disease and we are happy to do as much as we can to help one of our local citizens fight back.”

The Dustdevils will host Dallas Baptist University at the TAMIU Soccer Complex with the women kicking off at 5 p.m. and the men starting immediately after at 7:30 p.m.

Both the women’s and men’s soccer teams will dawn pink jerseys for the event and will be playing in honor of Mrs. Delgado’s fight against cancer.
