Women's Soccer Eliminated From Postseason

Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The TAMIU women’s soccer team had their dream season come to an end Thursday afternoon, as no. 9 Dallas Baptist University eliminated the Dustdevils from the Heartland Conference Tournament handing TAMIU a 4-0 loss.

The Patriots took the early momentum scoring two goals in the first 17 minutes of the game and the Dustdevils were never able to recover.

DBU dominated the opening period out shooting TAMIU 11-3.  The Patriots got things going at the 12-minute mark, as Danielle Presley was able to beat TAMIU keeper Aissa Pedraza after controlling a cross from Ashley Cox.

Just minutes later DBU forward Lea Sedwick made her way through the Dustdevil defense and fired a shot that struck the post.  The ball ricocheted right back to Cox who was easily able to beat Pedraza, who was out of position after diving on the first attempt.  After allowing the two early goals, Pedraza was lifted in favor of junior Katelin Jennings.

The Dustdevils came out in the second half with much more purpose to their play and looked to be poised for a comeback.  TAMIU out shot DBU 7-6 in the second half, but was never to put a quality shot on Patriots’ keeper Kerry Edwards.

Kelsey Hall added another goal for DBU goal in the 65th minute, before Danielle Presley put the final nail in the coffin scoring her second goal of the game in the 70th minute.

The Dustdevils conclude the 2012 season with an overall record 11-7-2 and a conference record of 5-4-1.  With the exception of Houston-Victoria, each of TAMIU’s losses came against opponents ranked in the top 25.

The 2012 Dustdevils will go down as the best women’s soccer team in TAMIU history having set records for wins in a single season, conference wins in a season, consecutive games won, and for qualifying for the postseason for the first time in program history.  The Dustdevils also set team records for goals, assists, and points in a single season.
