DURANGO, Colo. – Two days after scoring a season-high three goals and doubling its season total in one game, Texas A&M International’s offense fell silent against Fort Lewis College in Colorado. The Skyhawks blanked the Dustdevils, 3-0, on their home pitch on Monday.

A pair of second-half goals put the match out of reach. The Dustdevils (1-3-0, 0-0 Heartland) held the match in a scoreless draw until Fort Lewis’ Artur Piperkov slotted a Maik Brandt through ball into TAMIU’s net on the brink of halftime. The 41st minute strike sucked the wind out of the Dustdevils’ lungs as they spent the subsequent 60 minutes chasing the match.

The Skyhawks (3-0-1) doubled their spoils in the 63rd minute when Alberto Capdepon netted an unassisted strike, and they tripled the total with a final tally in the 76th minute. Brandt scored off a corner kick by way of Johannes Sander to end the match.

Dustdevils goalkeeper Jesus Cisneros made only one save but faced 16 shots (4 on goal) in the match. The defense in front of him committed twice as many fouls – 20 – than Fort Lewis and saw four of the center official’s yellow cards as a result. Seniors Yamin Olavarrieta (38th minute) and Joan Vallejo (59th), and sophomores Camilo Botero (66th) and Juan Ramirez (89th) each received cautions, while Elliot Prost (69th) and Piperkov (72nd) were the only bookings for the Skyhawks.

TAMIU aired five total shots, illustrating a certain level of accuracy with all five falling on frame and forcing Fort Lewis keeper Ryan Schaul to make saves. He was successful in goal, preventing the Dustdevils from bulging his net as they suffered their first shutout of the season.

The Dustdevils will close their four-match road trip with matches against Eastern New Mexico (Sept. 19, 5 p.m.) and West Texas A&M (Sept. 21, noon) before returning to the TAMIU Soccer Complex to host Heartland rival St. Mary’s on Sept. 27 at 5 p.m.
