LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University's 54 percent shooting showcase on Thursday at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building doomed Huston-Tillotson (1-3). The Dustdevils were led by Jessica Prieto's triple-double en route to a 93-68 victory to start the season 2-0.
Prieto was dominant with 11 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in just 32 minutes. She shot 4-for-6 from the field while helping TAMIU to its largest margin of victory since February of last season.
She was joined by senior Jessica Woo's 28-point, 13-rebound double-double. Woo was a sniper, going 11-for-12 from the field and 2-for-3 from long range. She made nine of her 13 rebounds on defense and also completed two steals in 32 minutes.
Senior Alexi Thomas finished with 16 points, two assists, two steals and eight rebounds after shooting 70 percent from the field (7-for-10). She only played 26 minutes. Keiona Matthews contributed nine points and both Stella Ghazarian and Chelsea Salom sunk eight points apiece. Salom had four assists.
Mason Hawk played half an hour with just three points, but her five assists proved instrumental as the Dustdevils pulled away, building a 26-point lead late in the second half.
The Dustdevils will next visit Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a rematch of the Dustdevils season-opening 56-48 victory. TAMIU then returns home to host Texas A&M-Commerce on Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
