KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M International University (3-0) notched its first road win of the year, defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville (0-2), for the second time in less than a week. The Saturday afternoon in a rematch at the Hampton Inn Court finished in favor of the Dustdevils, 62-47.
The Dustdevils were led by junior Keiona Mathews with 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Mathews shot 6-for-14 from the field.
Right behind her were junior Jessica Prieto and senior Mason Hawk with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Prieto assisted three shots for the Dustdevils. Hawk shot 50 percent from the 3-point range, and had three steals in 23 minutes.
Senior Jessico Woo and senior Alexis Thomas added nine points apiece for the Dustdevils, and senior Stella Ghazarian added five points.
On the defensive end, Woo led the team in rebounds with 11 (1 offensively, 10 defensively). In addition, she recorded three steals in a total of 36 minutes.
In total, TAMIU shot 38.1 percent from the field, and 21.1 percent from 3-point range. The majority of the Dustdevils' points came from short-range shots in the paint.
Next up, the Dustdevils return home on Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. to host Texas A&M-Commerce before heading out to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament.
