Prieto Sinks a Halfcourt Shot at the Buzzer for a TAMIU Win over UTPB

ODESSA, Texas – Texas A&M International University's junior Jessica Prieto sunk a 3-pointer, just inside the half court line on the right side, with .2 seconds on the clock for a 66-64 win over the University of Texas-Permian Basin Falcons (12-9, 6-7 Heartland) Thursday night at the Falcon Dome.

Prieto was the MVP of the night with her buzzer beater over the Falcons. "It was pretty surreal and everything went perfect. We executed the play from the pass, to the screen, and when the ball left my hands it just felt good," said Prieto.

"The girls executed the last play very well. Prieto did a great job of keeping an eye on the clock and she made an unbelievable shot. I'm very proud of the team for gridning it out for 40 minutes," said head coach Michelle Bento-Jackson.

Prieto had 15 points on the night, a game-high six assists, one block, two steals, and three rebounds on the night.

Senior Jessica Woo recorded the team's game-high with 19 points. She went 7-13 (53.9%) from the field, and 4-7 (57.1%) from the 3-point range. Woo also added in seven rebounds to the charts.

Junior Keiona Mathews and senior Stella Ghazarian also hit double-digits in points, with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Mathews also recorded four assists, one block, and one steal.

Senior Bezait Anbesse and senior Alexis Thomas went strong on the boards, with eight and nine rebounds, respectively. Anbesse added in five points for the Dustdevils, and Thomas added in three.

The game was fairly close throughout, as there were a total of 15 lead changed between both teams - the largest lead being five for both. TAMIU's shooting percentages overruled the Falcons, going 40 percent from the field, and 37 percent from 3-point range.

The Dustdevils are now back at .500 on the season, with an overall record of 11-11, and Heartland Conference record of 7-7. TAMIU stands tied at 4th place in the conference, and tied at 3rd place for a post-season Heartland Conference tournament position.
