AUSTIN, Texas (October 20, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team opened a two-game road trip in Austin, Texas on Thursday. The Dustdevils took on St. Edward's, falling 1-3. TAMIU moves to 1-16 overall (1-7 HC).
Set 1: TAMIU 18 - SEU 25
After trailing 0-8 early, TAMIU battled back, scoring five straight points to come within striking distance. TAMIU would use a second run to come within one late in the set. A six point SEU run would end the first set in favor of the HIlltoppers.
Set 2: TAMIU 25 - SEU 17
A close start to set two would swing in favor of the Dustdevils mid-way through. TAMIU used a five-point run to open an 18-12 lead. The Dustdevils would spoil a late push by SEU to take the second set 25-17.
Set 3: TAMIU 19 - SEU 25
With things knotted at a set per side, TAMIU fell behind early. Trailing throughout the set, the Dustdevils used a late scoring run to bring the set within four. The late push would not be enough as the Hilltoppers scored the final two points of the set, winning 25-19.
Set 4: TAMIU 23 - SEU 25
The Dustdevils looked to even the match at two in the fourth set, jumping out to an early 5-1 lead. A four point run by SEU would even the game before the teams traded short runs. TAMIU would take the longest run of the game trailing by five late. The four point run would decrease the Hilltopper lead to just two. The teams traded points until the Hilltoppers took the set and match.
Alejandra Bustamante recorded her best defensive game of the season, picking up 30 digs.
Tori Zamora picked up 16 assists while
Megan Unrath led TAMIU with three blocks.
Ramey Gardner recorded 12 kills in the loss,
The Dustdevils take on Dallas Baptist in Dallas on Saturday before returning to Laredo next week. Play in Dallas is set to begin at 12 pm CST.
