88th minute goal downs TAMIU on the road

WICHITA, Kansas (October 22, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Men's Soccer team took on Newman University on Saturday. The Dustdevils fell 0-1, moving to 5-10 overall (4-8 HC).

For the second time in three days, a late goal decided the fate of the Dustdevil Men's Soccer team.

After playing a 0-0 draw through 87 minutes, Newman found the back of the net. with 1:01 left in regulation a Jet attacker fired a shot from the far left wing to put NU up by one.

TAMIU was unable to answer the late goal and faced their second close loss on the road.

The Dustdevils and Jets would play an even first half dominated by defense as each team managed just two shots. TAMIU would come out strong in the second half, firing five shots, holding Newman to just three.

Michael Iskander led the Dustdevils with four shots, one on goal. Ryan Hodgson, Alan Rivera, and Christian Mendoza were responsible for the rest of the TAMIU chances. Roberto Molina would play all 90 minutes in net, picking up one save, while the Dustdevils recorded one save as a team.

Head Coach Claudio Arias commented after the game, "Newman got lucky. We were the better team today. Unfortunatley we couldn't finish the opportunities we generated. The referee made a mistake in our goal. That's hard to swallow."

TAMIU closes out the regular season next week on the road. Play begins with a matchup against Dallas Baptist on Thursday, October 27. The first whistle is set to blow at 7:30 pm CST.
