DALLAS, Texas (October 27, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Men's Soccer team played the first of their final two regular season games on Thursday. The Dustdevils and Patriots battled throughout before DBU put the game away in the second overtime, moving TAMIU to 5-11 overall (4-9 HC).
For the third straight game, the Dustdevils found themselves on the wrong side of a late goal.
After playing 103 minutes of scoreless soccer, DBU found the back of the net in the second overtime. A cross through the box led to a successful Patriot attempt, ending the game.
TAMIU outshot DBU throughout, tallying six shots on goal. The Dustdevil defense held the Patriots to just two shots on goal throughout the game.
TAMIU was forced to play a man down after keeper
Roberto Molina drew a red card in the 85th minute.
Funcia Kenneh led TAMIU with three shots while Molina made the lone save before drawing the card.
Head Coach
Claudio Arias commented after the game, "It seems like the story of this year has been our lack of finishing and moments that have hurt us defensively. That's what happened today and has happened throughout the season. Our guys effort was great, yet not great enough to defeat DBU."
The Dustdevils will play their final regular season game on Saturday. TAMIU heads to San Antonio, Texas to take on St. Mary's. Play is set to begin at 1pm CST.
