LAREDO, Texas (October 27, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team kicked off a weekend home stand on Thursday. TAMIU earned their first victory in front of hometown fans, defeating Oklahoma Panhandle State 3-0. The Dustdevils are now 2-17 overall (2-8 HC).
Set 1: TAMIU 25 - OPSU 20
The Dustdevils used a late run in the first set to down the Aggies. After trailing 15-18, TAMIU went on a six-point run to take a 21-18 lead. OPSU would battle back into the set before TAMIU used a four-point run to put the game away.
Set 2: TAMIU 25 - OPSU 14
TAMIU dominated play in the second set, winning by a margin of 11. The Dustdevils and Aggies played to a 12-12 tie midway through the match before TAMIU pulled away. An eight-point run allowed the Dustdevils to jump out to a 20-12 lead. Three straight points would put the match away and put TAMIU ahead 2-0.
Set 3: TAMIU 25 - OPSUÂ 25
A six-point run in the third set was the key to a Dustdevil Victory. TAMIU would pull ahead 18-12 before putting the game away, killing an Aggie rally.
Ramey Gardner recorded a double-double in the match with 10 kills and 13 digs.
Tori Zamora recorded 15 assists while
Jasmine Sanchez added 13 digs.
Samantha Gonzalez finished with four blocks and three aces in the match.
The Dustdevils will be back in action on Saturday, October 29 as they face Lubbock Christian. The game is set to begin at 12pm CST.
