LAREDO, Texas (November 18, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Men's Basketball team opened play in the 2016 La Posada Classic on Friday. TAMIU hosted Paul Quinn College, defeating the Tigers 106-84, moving to 4-3 overall.
An 11-4 run with seven minutes remaining in the first-half was the key to a 19 point halftime lead.
Denzel Bellot led the Dustdevils with 15 first-half points, a game high through 20 minutes. Bunja Yaboe finished with 10 points and five boards in 12 minutes of action. TAMIU forced eight Tiger turnovers and shot 65% from the field. After 20 minutes of action, TAMIU led 55-36.
The Dustdevils would push the lead to 27 with 7:49 left in regulation. TAMIU would let the Tigers within 20 just twice in the second half. Five three-point shots would help extend the lead in the final 20 minutes,
Jake Eynon led the Dustdevils with two baskets from deep in eight minutes. Eynon led TAMIU with 10 second-half points. The Dustdevils forced nine more turnovers in the second half for a total of 17. TAMIU would capitalize on Tiger mistakes, putting up 29 points after forcing a turnover.
The Dustdevil bench contributed 60 points while TAMIU scored 58 points in the painted area.
Greg Mason and Bellot finished with 15 points a piece. Yaboe finished with 13 points and seven boards.
Arthur Santanna picked up a team high, two steals in the win.
The Dustdevils continue play in the La Posada Classic on Saturday. TAMIU hosts Southwestern Adventist in the TAMIU KCB at 7pm CST.
