SAN ANGELO, Texas (February 7, 206) -- The Texas A&M International University Softball team finished play in the ASU George McCorkel Challenge with a 6-9 loss to host, Angelo State. The Dustdevils finish 3-3 on the weekend and move to 3-5 overall.
TAMIU struck first, scoring four (4) runs in the first inning.
Brenda Parnin hit a two-run home run on the second at bat of the game.
Alyssa Acuna added and RBI on a single through the right side, scoring
Brittany Mussett. The fourth run came on a bases loaded walk, scoring Acuna from third. The Dustdevils added another run in the fifth when
Brandi Giles hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring
Chelsea Capello from third. The Rams would tie the game in the fifth, scoring three (3) runs. TAMIU got the lead back in the sixth before the Rams struck for four (4) runs in the bottom of the inning.
Acuna led the way for TAMIU, going 3-4 at the plate with 1 RBI and a run scored. Mussett went 2-4 at the plate with a run scored and 1 RBI.
Krystal De La Cruz started on the mound for the Dustdevils, pitching 5.1 innings. De La Cruz struck out four (4), allowing eight (8) hits.
Delainy Thompson came in for relief, pitching .2 innings for TAMIU.
The Dustdevils are back in action Tuesday, February 9. TAMIU will head to Kingsville, Texas to take on Texas A&M Kingsville. Tuesday's double header is set to start at 4 pm CST.
