De La Cruz two hits Javelinas in Kingsville sweep

KINGSVILLE, Texas (February 9, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International University Softball team defeated Kingsville twice on Tuesday. The Dustdevils move to 5-5 overall in the 2016 campaign. 

Krystal De La Cruz highlighted the night for TAMIU, pitching a two-hit shutout against Texas A&M Kingsville. Coming off of a six game tournament the Dustdevils continued their road trip, adding two more wins.

Game 1: Dustdevils 6, Javelinas 5
The Dustdevils won game one in dramatic fashion. Up 5-4 heading to the seventh inning, the Javelinas scratched across a run, tying the game at five. TAMIU took advantage of the International tie-breaker right away in the eighth. Brenda Parnin roped a double to left field, scoring Acacia Salinas from second. The Dustdevils held off a rally in the bottom of the inning, leading to the final score of 6-5.

Anna Parnin was a key factor in the win, going 2-3 at the plate. Parnin had 2 RBI and crossed the plate once in the win. Brandi Giles went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Delainy Thompson got the start for the Dustdevils, pitching 6 innings. Thompson struck out six (6), giving up eight (8) hits. De La Cruz pitched the final 2 innings, allowing three (3) hits, recording one (1) strikeout. 

Game 2: Dustdevils 3, Javelinas 0
TAMIU continued their success in game two, shutting out the Javelinas 3-0. Neither team had scored before Krissy Sardelich lined an RBI single up the middle, scoring Alyssa Soneff in the fifth. The Dustdevils added another in the sixth on an Alyssa Acuna RBI double. The final run of the game was scored in the seventh. Taylor Vines singled to center, scoring Erika Sanchez.

Sardelich led the Dustdevils at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI. Vines and Acuna each recorded one (1) hit and 1 RBI.

De La Cruz won her fourth game of the season, pitching a complete game shutout. De La Cruz allowed just two (2) hits, striking out four (4).

The Dustdevils will play their next set of games in Kingsville, part of the Texas A&M Kingsville Tournament. The first game will be against Southwestern Oklahoma on Friday, February 12. First pitch is set for 8 am.
