SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (September 10, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team concluded play in the Fairfield Inn and Suites Invitational on Saturday. The Dustdevils were defeated 0-3 by Minot State and Western New Mexico. The Dustdevils move to 0-8 in the 2016 campaign.
Match One: TAMIU 0 - Minot State 3 (20-25,23-25,18-25)
TAMIU faced off with 3-3 Minot State to start Saturday's action. The Beavers defeated TAMIU in three straight sets.
Ramey Gardner led the offense, recording 11 kills.
Samantha Gonzalez picked up three aces and two blocks.
Alexis Villa was strong in the passing game, recording 13 assists.
Alejandra Bustamante led the defensive effort with 17 digs.
Match Two: TAMIU 0 - Western New Mexico 3 (22-25, 11-25, 22-25)
The final match in the Invitational pitted the Dustdevils against 4-3 Western New Mexico. The Mustangs used three straight sets to defeat TAMIU. The Dustdevils were lead by Gardner (13 kills, two aces), Gonzalez (three blocks), Bustamante (17 digs), and
Victoria Zamora (16 assists). Villa contributed an additional 15 assists in the second match.
The Dustdevils return to Laredo for their home-opener this Thursday, September 15. Heartland Conference play opens in a matchup with Dallas Baptist. The match is set to begin at 7 pm CST.
