LAREDO, Texas (September 17, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team hosted St. Edward's and Western New Mexico on Saturday. TAMIU fell 0-3 in both matches. The Dustdevils are now 0-11 overall (0-2 HC).
Game 1: TAMIU 0 - St. Edward's 3 (18-25, 17-25, 14-25)
The Dustdevils continued play in the Heartland Conference Regular Season, hosting the Hilltoppers. The Dustdevils used scoring runs in the first set, bringing the game even multiple times. A four point Hilltopper run downed TAMIU in the set. Sets two and three were shaped by large scoring streaks from the Hilltoppers, dropping the Dustdevils in three sets.
Alexis Villa and
Victoria Zamora picked up 11 assists in the match.
Ramey Gardner and
Ali Sanchez each recorded seven kills.
Nadiah Fry and
Jasmine Sanchez each tallied two blocks.
Game 2: TAMIU 0 - Western New Mexico 3 (29-31, 7-25, 21-25)
TAMIU closed out play in a matchup against Western New Mexico. Saturday was the second time the teams have met this season. The Dustdevils found themselves in a marathon match-up in the first set. The Mustangs and Dustdevils matched one-another throughout the entire set. TAMIU was defeated 7-25 in the second set, before bouncing back to drop a close third set 21-25.
Junior,
Ali Sanchez picked up a season-high 11 digs, adding two aces. Gardner added 11 kills while Villa picked up 17 assists.
The Dustdevils are back in action September 24. TAMIU continues play in the Heartland Conference with a matchup against St. Mary's. The match will be played in San Antonio, Texas and is set to begin at 12 pm CST.
